The future of the food industry has led to connected farming techniques and “smart farming methods.” The agriculture devices allow farmers to monitor fields for soil health, humidity and moisture to control when and how the crops are fed – however this also provides hackers with the same information. Additionally, nearly every step of the food supply chain involves a smart device or sensor that connects to a centralized control system. Hackers could delay or prevent shipments from arriving, steal trade secrets and spoil perishable items ultimately putting consumers in danger.
