Challenge #17 represents the strengthening and implementation of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development. A stronger commitment to partnership and cooperation is needed to reach these sustainability goals by 2030. Coherent policies, an enabling environment for sustainable development at all levels by all participants, countries to citizens must be reinvigorated to ensure our earth is a better place for the future.

FACTS OF PARTNERSHIP

Official development assistance stood at $146.6 billion in 2017. This represents a decrease of 0.6% in real terms over 2016.

79% of imports from developing countries enter developed countries duty-free.

The debt burden on developing countries remains stable at about 3% of export revenue.

But more than four billion people do not use the Internet, and 90% of them are from the developing world.

30% of the world’s youth are digital natives, active online for at least five years.

An estimated $1 billion in statistical support annually will be necessary to effectively monitor the data requirements needed for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Developing regions are showing growth in their share of international trade, with merchandise export increasing by over 13% since 2001.

Fixed broadband services remain largely unaffordable and unavailable throughout large segments of the world. Only 8.2% and 0.8% in developing and least developing regions.

Global rate of internet usage was 12% lower for women than men.

Main recipients of assistance were the public administration, environment and energy sectors, which together were provided with $8.2 billion.

Only 37 of 83 countries or areas with pertinent data had national legislation in place that compiled with all 10 Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.

International remittances totaled $575 billion which is up an estimated 75%.
