Affordable Energy Lab

Despite yearly gains in clean and affordable energy, electricity production remains a key driver of climate change, producing 60% of greenhouse gas emissions per year. Despite this, a large share of humanity remains without access to reliable electricity.

Learn how you can tackle these issues by joining the Affordable Energy Lab, part of Prepr’s Sustainable Innovation Lab series.

UN Sustainable Development Goal #7: Affordable and Clean Energy

This UNESCO goal aims for universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services by 2030, as well as a substantial pivot to renewable energy. This goal also targets adoption of efficient and sustainable energy sources, especially in developing nations.

Key facts about sustainable energy

Over 1 billion people are still living without electricity. Over half of this population is in Sub-Saharan Africa or rural parts of Asia.

More than 3 billion people are cooking without clean fossil fuels or efficient technology.

Renewable energy accounted for over two thirds of new power around the world in 2016.

1 billion people in Sub-Saharan Africa alone may gain electricity access by 2040.

13% of the global population still lacks access to modern electricity.

The share of renewable energy in final energy consumption has reached 17.5% in 2015.

Energy is the dominant contributor to climate change, accounting for around 60% of total global greenhouse gas emissions.
