  • 30 mins of group work to build pitch
  • 20 mins for team presentations

Our Expert Panelists

Cheryl Evans

Director, Flood and Wildfire Resilience Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation  University of Waterloo

Cheryl Evans leads the Intact Centre team that works across Canada with residents, businesses, governmental and non-governmental organizations to co-create flood and wildfire-ready risk assessment tools, training programs, and community-partnered resilient retrofit education programs. Cheryl has over 20 years’ experience facilitating multi-stakeholder, climate-ready initiatives across the country. Cheryl holds a B.E.S. in Environment & Resource Studies from the University of Waterloo and starts her Master’s Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management at Royal Roads University this fall.

Mike Flannigan

Research Chair for Predictive Services, Emergency Management and Fire Science at Thompson Rivers University Professor Emeritus at University of Alberta

Dr. Mike Flannigan is a BC Innovation Research Chair in Predictive Services, Emergency Management and Fire Science, Faculty of Science as well as the Science Director of the Canadian Partnership for Wildland Fire Science (Canada Wildfire) located at the University of Alberta. Dr. Flannigan’s primary research interests include fire and weather/climate interactions including the potential impact of climatic change, lightning-ignited forest fires, landscape fire modeling and interactions between vegetation, fire, and weather. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Wildland Fire (2002-2008) and has taken on leadership roles with the US National Assessment on Global Change, IPCC, IGBP Fire Fast Track Initiative and Global Change Terrestrial Ecosystems (GCTE) efforts on the global impacts of fire.
