The global pandemic has drastically limited opportunities for youth to build the necessary skills to successfully enter today’s workforce. Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is quickly becoming an effective and impactful solution for preparing our youth to be workforce ready. Prepr is incredibly grateful for all the hard work and dedication our partners and supporters have been putting into creating a brighter future of work for our next generations. Take a look at some of the incredible opportunities that the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences has managed to open up for youth all over Africa.

“It is widely recognised that a lack of work-readiness, combined with a mismatch between industry requirements and skills possessed by graduates, are major causes of youth unemployment worldwide. These skills gaps are more pronounced in Africa and the Global South where many young people do not have access to quality education. While the skills gap is difficult to measure at the primary and secondary education levels, the challenge has become a priority at the tertiary level due to the urgency of transitioning skilled graduates to the labour market…”

“…This article shares perspectives from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), unpacks the relationship between WIL and the advancement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as its adaptation to the African context. We shed light on innovative multi-stakeholder partnerships to align skills development to labour market needs and stimulate youth employment in Africa. We also argue for comprehensive internationalisation and digitalisation as priority responses to support greater systemic resilience in a post-COVID-19 world.”
