Ever wonder why public transportation in Canada is far behind the rest of the developed world? Do you want to find out why the Eglinton Crosstown project in Toronto has no end in sight and is millions of dollars of budget? This is your chance to find out and provide solutions to make Canadian cities more livable and accessible.

What are the social equity implications of transportation policies and projects, and how can we ensure that transportation systems serve all segments of the population equitably?

1.5 Hours Total

  • 40 mins of discussions with expert panelists + finalize challenge statements
  • 30 mins of group work to build pitch
  • 20 mins for team presentations

Our Expert Panelists

Susan Sperling

VP of Communications and Public Engagement, Crosslinx Transit Solutions

With degrees in History and Industrial Relations, Susan meandered her way into Communications more than two decades ago and got a crash course in crisis communications when SARS hit a few months after she joined Toronto Public Health as a Media Relations Coordinator.

In 2011, she was hired by TTC to lead communications for the Eglinton Crosstown project, then moved over to build and manage TTC’s Corporate Communications team, where she stayed until 2019.

After a few years working in the global renewable energy sector, Susan rejoined the transit world in November 2022, this time as Vice-President, Communications and Public Engagement for Crosslinx Transit Solutions, the consortium building the Crosstown.

Naama Blonder

Architect, Urban Designer and Co-Founder of Smart Density

Naama Blonder, is the architect, urban designer and co-founder of Smart Density. Naama’s professional work spans across planning and architecture, and by marrying the two disciplines, Naama brings a deeper and more realistic understanding of how municipal policies take physical shape.

Adam McNeill

Host

Adam McNeill has over a decade of agency experience in digital strategy and marketing. He has taught marketing and social media at Fanshawe College and the University of Western Ontario.

He is currently a senior team lead and learning experience designer at Prepr, helping connect learners with employers, bridging the gap between academia and the workforce.
